Starting with the airbag in the 1980s, it is hard to imagine many components and systems in automotive construction without metallic mesh from GKD. Used as filters and for component protection, the meshes are indispensable in drive, control, braking and exhaust systems. The woven solutions, produced at a high technological level, regularly set standards throughout the sector. A good example of this is the innovative three-dimensional Volumetric mesh, which is used in the low-pressure (LP) exhaust gas filters of almost all manufacturers, where it protects the turbocharger from mechanical damage caused by particulate.
At the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA), the focus is on special mesh designs that are used in batteries and fuel cells of alternative drive concepts. GKD’s decades of experience as a supplier to the leading manufacturers of rechargeable batteries are channelled into this, together with the company’s intensive research and prototype construction in the field of fuel cells. GKD offers special shielding mesh to protect these high-performance systems from electromagnetic radiation. Over 30 years of cooperation with all well-known aircraft manufacturers make the technological leader the ideal partner for this. An additional highlight on the trade fair stand is a prototype made of highly decorative metal mesh for the interior design of future self-driving vehicles. With its design expertise as a global market leader in the field of metal fabrics, GKD is also developing new directions here.
GKD combines profound knowledge of technologies, markets and customer requirements with ultra-modern manufacturing that reliably meets the automotive industry’s exacting standards. The intelligent multi-platform strategy, which guarantees a globally collaborative organization throughout the entire added value chain, also contributes to this. Whether to further increase the efficiency of internal combustion engines or to support alternative drive technologies: at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) GKD will be presenting itself as the perfect partner for the challenges of future personal mobility.
